Connect VS Code

Agent mode in Visual Studio Code

Add the server

Add Thndr to .vscode/mcp.json for one workspace, or to your user mcp.json for every workspace:

Sign in

  1. Start the server: open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P), run MCP: List Servers, choose thndr, then Start.
  2. VS Code asks for a client ID. Enter claude, and leave the client secret empty.
  3. Sign in in the browser, tick the tools you want, and press Allow.
  4. Approve the request in the Thndr app on your phone. Check that the number on your phone matches the one on screen.

If you see Unknown client_id

VS Code has saved the wrong client ID. The usual cause is typing the redirect addresses VS Code shows in that prompt instead of claude. To clear it:

  1. Run Authentication: Remove Dynamic Authentication Providers from the Command Palette, and remove the Thndr entry.
  2. Restart the server, and enter claude when asked.
